Textly Privacy Policy

Your text belongs to you. At MacThru, privacy is an essential part of the Textly experience.

Last Updated: 11 October 2026

1. Local Text Capture and Recognition

Textly’s primary purpose is to help you capture text and structured tables from your Mac screen.

  • Apple Vision Framework: Core character recognition and document layout analysis are performed 100% locally on your Mac using Apple's native Vision framework and Neural Engine hardware.
  • No OCR Cloud Uploads: Screenshots taken for text capture and the resulting extracted text strings are processed entirely in local memory. They are never transmitted to outside recognition servers, language models, or MacThru’s licensing server.
  • Clipboard Recents: Captured text is stored locally within the application sandbox on your Mac to power your recent history tray. You can clear this history anytime directly through the app interface.
  • Screen Recording Permission: macOS requires you to grant standard Screen Recording permission so Textly can read the display buffer pixels at the moment you draw a selection rectangle. This permission is used exclusively for on-screen capture actions triggered directly by you.

2. Mac App Store Purchases and Data Handling

For users who acquire Textly via the Apple Mac App Store:

  • Apple acts as the platform provider and handles all payment card processing, billing, currency conversions, and receipt delivery.
  • MacThru does not collect, receive, or store your credit card information, bank details, or personal billing address from App Store transactions.
  • App Store telemetry: Apple may collect anonymous, aggregated crash reports and installation statistics if you have opted in to share analytics with developers in your macOS System Settings. These metrics cannot personally identify you.
  • Refer to Apple's Privacy Policy for full details on Apple’s data processing.

3. Web Store Purchases and Paddle

For users who purchase a lifetime license via the MacThru Web Store:

  • Paddle as Merchant of Record: Transactions are handled by Paddle. Paddle collects customer billing information, email addresses, and payment details to execute transactions, comply with tax reporting rules, and manage fraud detection.
  • Limited Data Shared with MacThru: Paddle provides MacThru with limited order fulfillment information necessary to generate and service your license—specifically your order ID, transaction ID, customer email address, and purchase timestamp.
  • No Payment Card Storage: MacThru never receives or stores your full payment card number, CVV, or payment provider credentials.
  • For detailed information regarding Paddle's independent processing of buyer data, see Paddle’s Privacy Policy.

4. Registration Code and License Server Data

To deliver and protect Web Store lifetime licenses and enforce the two-Mac activation limit, Textly communicates with the secure MacThru licensing server.

Information Processed for Licensing:

  • Registration code (e.g. TXTLY-XXXXX...).
  • Hardware-derived device identifier (e.g., anonymized hardware UUID hash).
  • Friendly device name (e.g., "MacBook Pro") to help you manage active devices.
  • Activation status, activation timestamps, and deactivation records.
  • Associated Paddle transaction identifier and email address.

Strict Data Separation: Licensing data is strictly technical metadata required to validate your active license seats. Licensing requests never include screenshots, captured text, clipboard contents, application names, or documents opened on your Mac.

5. Purposes of Processing & Legal Basis

We process personal and licensing information for the following legitimate purposes:

  • Contractual Performance: To issue, validate, and maintain your software license and verify that simultaneous Mac seats remain within the two-Mac limit.
  • Customer Support: To look up lost registration codes, assist with device migration, and respond to technical support inquiries.
  • Fraud Prevention: To prevent unauthorized mass distribution, reselling, and piracy of registration codes.

6. Data Security, Retention, and Deletion

We implement industry-standard encryption, SSL/TLS transport security, and restricted server access controls to safeguard licensing records:

  • License records are retained for the active lifetime of your license to enable ongoing seat validation and reissue lost keys upon request.
  • If you request license deletion or refund your purchase, associated activation seats are revoked, and personal contact identifiers can be deleted upon verified request subject to legal accounting requirements.
  • Local application data (recent captures and preferences) can be deleted at any time by clearing the history in Textly or uninstalling the application.

7. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (such as the GDPR in the EEA/UK or state privacy laws in the United States), you have specific statutory privacy rights, including:

  • The right to access the personal information we hold about you.
  • The right to request rectification of inaccurate data.
  • The right to request erasure of your data, subject to legal and licensing obligations.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support.textly@macthru.com.
