Overview of Sales Tax and VAT Collection
Digital software purchases are subject to indirect tax regulations in many countries, states, and provinces worldwide (including Value Added Tax in the EU/UK, Goods and Services Tax in Australia/Canada/India, and state sales taxes across the United States). Both Apple and Paddle act as Merchants of Record, meaning they collect and remit these customer taxes directly to relevant tax authorities.
Mac App Store Purchases
When purchasing Textly through the Apple Mac App Store:
- Billing Management: Apple handles all checkout billing, payment verification, and currency conversions according to the regional storefront assigned to your Apple Account.
- Applicable Indirect Taxes: Depending on your country or state, applicable sales taxes or VAT are either calculated into the displayed catalog price or added during the final checkout confirmation screen in compliance with local regulations.
- Price Confirmation: You will always be shown the exact total purchase price in your local storefront currency before entering your password or confirming with Touch ID.
- Receipts & Tax Invoices: Apple sends an itemized receipt directly to your Apple Account email address following every transaction. You can view your historical purchase invoices anytime at reportaproblem.apple.com or within your macOS App Store account settings.
MacThru Web Store Purchases (Paddle)
When purchasing a Textly lifetime license via the MacThru Web Store:
- Merchant of Record Role: Paddle acts as our authorized reseller and Merchant of Record. In this legal capacity, Paddle is responsible for calculating, collecting, and remitting all applicable customer indirect taxes (such as VAT, GST, and US sales taxes) associated with the consumer transaction.
- Tax Calculation at Checkout: Based on the billing country and postal code you supply during checkout, Paddle automatically calculates and displays any required indirect tax as a distinct line item prior to completing payment.
- Currencies & Pricing: Checkout prices are presented in supported local currencies whenever possible. If your card issuer or banking institution operates in a different domestic currency than the currency selected at checkout, your bank may charge international transaction or foreign exchange conversion fees.
- Payment Processing & Card Security: Paddle processes payments securely using PCI-DSS Level 1 certified infrastructure, supporting credit/debit cards, Apple Pay, and PayPal. MacThru never receives, processes, or stores your complete credit card numbers or payment credentials.
- Invoices and Business Receipts: Paddle automatically emails you an official VAT/tax receipt following payment. Business customers requiring a corporate tax invoice with an included VAT ID can enter their company tax details directly within the Paddle checkout or update their invoice details via Paddle Buyer Support (paddle.net).
Merchant of Record Clarification: Paddle collects and remits applicable customer sales taxes and VAT for customer transactions made through its platform. Paddle does not administer or pay MacThru’s own general business, income, or corporate taxes, which remain the sole legal and accounting responsibility of MacThru.
